MouseOver Button Wizard Professional Version 1.1 This readme file contains: I. Introduction II. Installing III. Features IV. What's New V. Registration VI. Simple Instructions VII. Advanced Instructions VIII. Uninstalling IX. Contact Information -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I. Introduction Thank you for chosing MOBW Pro Version 1.1. Here is a little background information about me. I am 17 and a somewhat new programmer. MOBW was my first program and the professional version has been a very fun and challenging experience. With the freeware version, I figured I would try to make people's lives easier by making it a simple task to create MouseOver buttons. After it was released, I started looking at similar programs, MOBW user's ideas, and a few of my own ideas and decided I could do better. I decided to try to put every feature I could think of and a few more and make a professional version. I am happy with the result, and plan on continuing updates and more added features all the time. I also hope to make enough help features and files so that anyone can create MouseOver buttons without knowing any JavaScript and minimal html. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- II. Installing To install MOBW Pro, simply open the mobw_pro.exe file, then follow the installation instructions. This program only works on Windows 95 or higher and is not compatable with Windows NT or MacOS. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- III. Features Here is a list of current features included in MOBW Pro Version 1.1: 1) Simple, easy to use interface 2) Copy and paste the code into your favorite html editor 3) Customize previewing of images with frames/tables 4) Include a secondary image/text that changes along with button 5) Specify width, height, status message, alternate text, target 6) Image editor that allows you to paste text onto blank buttons, then position it 7) Cascading Style Sheet Creator lets you create MouseOver effects with your pages normal text links 8) Create up to 20 buttons 9) Auto-Updater helps you get the latest version of MOBW Pro -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IV. What's New There are a few changes made in version 1.1, most noticeable is the change of the icons in the toolbar. A reset button was made for the css creator, and a small bug was fixed with capital letters used in the extension of an imaging and previewing that image. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- V. Registration MouseOver Button Wizard Professional Version is not freeware. To get it, you must go to http://www.mobw.net/registration.html to see pricing information and to register the program. This will unlock all of the features of MOBW Pro for your use. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VI. Simple Instructions These instructions will introduce you to the basics of making mouseover buttons and help you make your first set of buttons. 1) After installation, go to Start-Programs-MouseOver Button Wizard Pro and select MouseOver Button Wizard Pro to open the program. 2) The Original Image is the image that appears when the page first loads and when the viewer's mouse is not interacting with the button. The first thing you need to do is type in a url or image name in the "Original Image Source" box (ex: "http://www.mobw.net/mobw.gif" or "mobw.gif"). You can also click browse to find an image located on your computer. 3) The MouseOver Image is the image that appears when the viewer's mouse is directly over the button. Again, type in a url or image name, or browse for one on your computer. 4) The OnClick Image is the image that appears when the viewer clicks down on the button with their mouse. If you do not want one to appear, simply use the same url/image name as the original image. 5) The next box is the "Alternate Text" box. The alternate text appears when an image on the page is not loaded for whatever reason. It also appears when the viewer's mouse is held over the image for a couple of seconds. It is suggested that this text is something that describes the button. 6) The final box you see is the "Button Link" box. The button link is the web page that opens when the viewer clicks on the button. This can either be a full url or simply the page name. 7) Now that you are done with button 1, click the next button at the top right to fill out the information for the next button, and so on until you have completed information for all the buttons you need. 8) When you are ready for your code, click Compile. 9) At the bottom of the screen in the two text boxes, the code you need will appear. In the tags of your html page, insert the text located under "Head" and in the tags insert the text located under "Body". 10) You can also click Preview to view the buttons in your web browser. By default, the html is saved to a file called ~temp.html in the C:/Program Files/MouseOver Button Wizard Pro/ folder. You can change the output directory in options, which is described in the Advanced Instructions section of this readme file. 11) There you have it, your first MouseOver buttons! Pretty easy, huh? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VII. Advanced Instructions This section will go over the more advanced properties/options of MOBW Pro. It is meant mainly for people who know HTML pretty well and need advanced features. 1) After you have filled out some simple information for a button, click the button "Advanced". 2) The first box in this window is "Target". The target is the name of the frame that the button's linked page will open up in. If you do not know what the name of a frame is, it is set in the tag as the property: name="framename". 3) The next box in the advanced properties window is the "Width" box. Enable this if you want to set the button's width yourself. Please note that this width will be used for the entire button, not just one image of it. If you leave it disabled, the width will be taken from each image automatically by the viewer's browser. 4) The next box is the "Height" box. This sets the height of the entire button. 5) Next is the "Status" box. If enabled, whatever you type here will appear in the viewer's status bar at the bottom of their browser. 6) The next section of the advanced properties is labeled "Secondary Image". This is a second image that changes when the viewer's mouse is over the button and it can only be enabled if it is enabled in the first button. Only one secondary image is used for each button set, so in the first button you set an original image and mouseover image and in every other button you only set a mouseover image. 7) The final section of the advanced properties is labeled "Secondary Text". This works much the same as the secondary image, except that it is text that changes instead of an image. This feature is also considered Dynamic HTML so it only works in Netscape 4+ or Internet Explorer 4+. 8) Now close out the advanced properties box to return to the main screen. Go to Project-Options. 9) The first page that appears is the General options, and the first box is the HTML Preview Directory. This is the directory on your computer that whatever HTML files created when you preview your buttons go. If type only an image name, you can set this to the directory those images are located so the browser will allow you to view them. 10) The next box in general options is the Image Preview Directory. This is the directory that is used if you click "Preview Button" and do not type in a directory name or url in the source of the image you are previewing. 11) The next options is whether or not to show the tutorial window when the program starts. You probably noticed this when you first started up MOBW Pro. 12) To the right of that options is whether or not to activate the hint boxes. These appear when your mouse goes over some boxes in the program. They give information about what to type into the boxes. 13) The final option in the general tab is whether or not to use only the image name in the compiled code. This means that if you type in a full url or the source to the image has the full directory in it (ex: C:/MOBW/mobw.gif), the program will only use the actual image name (ex: mobw.gif) in the code it compiles. The image names in the program will stay the same so you can preview them. 14) Now click on the tab HTML Preview. By default, the HTML Preview does not use frames. If you would like to use frames, check "Use Frames". When you do, the default number of frames used is 2. For each number of frames, there is a preview of what it will look like, and boxes under that preview where you can set how wide or tall each frame is. You select the frame setup you want by clicking the radiobutton that has an arrow pointing to its preview. The gray frame in each preview signifies the frame that the buttons will be placed in. You can click a different frame to change the frame where the buttons go. 15) Another option on this page is to turn on or off the frame border. In reality this hides the frame border and makes it so it cannot be resized. This effectively gets rid of the border around each frame. 16) The last options on the right set whether the buttons will be placed horizontally or vertically. You can also set whether they go in a table. If they are in a table, the table's border, cellspacing, and cellpadding are automatically set to zero. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VIII.
